Several Russian warplanes were destroyed in a series of blasts that hit the southwestern Crimean airbase earlier this week, according to the latest satellite images provided by Planet Labs.
While Kiev hasn't claimed responsibility for the explosions, Zelensky's adviser Oleksiy Arestovych argued that blasts that left at least one dead and several more injured could've been made by either Ukrainian long-range missiles or fighter jets. However, Russia earlier said the blasts followed a detonation of an ammo depot in the airbase.
If it turns out different, it would mark a severe escalation of the conflict that is nearing its sixth month. President Volodymyr Zelensky previously insisted that Crimea is Ukrainian and that the war would end with its "liberation." Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014, mostly without using military force.
