The trial of former United States President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants accused of attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia should start on October 23, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis requested in a court filing unveiled on Thursday.

In the statement sent to the Fulton Country Superior Court, Willis asked the start date to be set for October 23, which "falls within the term of the 'next succeeding regular court term' after the July-August, 2023 term of the Superior Court of Fulton County, Atlanta Judicial Circuit."

The former president is expected to turn himself in later in the day. Willis previously said that any defendant who does not surrender by August 25 at noon will have an arrest warrant issued for them.
