Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (pictured) expressed strong disapproval after a Wall Street Journal report claimed the US intensified intelligence activities in Greenland, a Danish territory. "You cannot spy against an ally," Frederiksen told AP on Friday, calling the claims "rumors" but stressing the growing importance of defense cooperation in northern Europe.
The report suggested that US intelligence officials allegedly instructed subordinates to gather information on pro-independence groups through surveillance and human sources.
Earlier, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard had condemned the leak, accusing WSJ of aiding "deep state actors" trying to sabotage the president. Gabbard warned that those responsible for leaking classified material would be held accountable.
