GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis unveiled his immigration policy on Monday, pledging a set of aggressive measures such as ending birthright citizenship, completing construction of the Mexico border wall, and deploying forces to Mexico to fight drug cartels.
"For decades, leaders from both parties have produced empty promises on border security, and now it is time to act to stop the invasion once and for all... As president, I will declare a national emergency on Day One and will not rest until we build the wall, shut down illegal entry, and win the war against the drug cartels," DeSantis said during his campaign rally in Eagle Pass, Texas.
The DeSantis campaign added they would release more detailed policy rollouts in the upcoming weeks. The second frontrunner in the election, former President Donald Trump, also pledged to end the automatic citizenship for newly born children of illegal immigrants last month if he wins a new term in the White House.
