Russia's representative at the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action talks in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said the standstill in negotiations over the reinstatement of the JCPOA threatens to escalate the matter further.

"The deadlock at the Vienna talks on the restoration of the JCPOA is fraught with uncontrolled escalation," the envoy stated.

The efforts to rebuild the nuclear agreement came after Tehran in 2020 took a step back in its commitment to the 2015 plan after the United States conducted an attack that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
