Delta Airlines Inc. said on Wednesday that it canceled around 400 Delta mainline and Delta Connection flights before noon due to weather conditions and warned that customers should expect more delays and cancellations as the forecast does not anticipate the temperature rising above the freezing mark today.
"Teams are focused on safely resuming service, conditions permitting, to and from airports in the Gulf Coast and Southeast regions, which are contending with rare, significant snowfall and ice," the company said, noting that it is working on safely resuming operations.
According to the website FlightAware, 326 of Delta's flights were canceled today, with 703 more delayed. The airline stated it is necessary to keep airfield movements at a safe level, which is why it has to engage ground delay programs to meter inbound traffic, while the surfaces are prepared for a "more optimal" use.
