Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has been projected as the winner of the House race in Washington's 3rd Congressional District on Saturday, winning a seat widely considered competitive despite being politically unknown before August's primary election. The projection was called by the Seattle Times.

Perez, an auto shop owner, won the race with about 50.5% of the vote in southwest Washington against Republican Joe Kent, Army Special Forces veteran, who was endorsed by former United States President Donald Trump. At 34, Perez will be one of the youngest members of Congress once sworn in next year.

The district has voted Republican for more than a decade. With the latest projections, the Democrats increased their chances of holding onto the majority in the House of Representatives despite the GOP still likely to get control over the lower chamber of Congress. House race results are still expected from California, Arizona, and Oregon.
