Denmark's Foreign Ministry confirmed to AFP on Tuesday that Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen will meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during this week’s NATO summit in Brussels. The confirmation came after reports of the planned meeting, which will take place amid tensions over US President Donald Trump's recent remarks about acquiring Greenland.
Despite concerns, the ministry emphasized that neither Greenland nor the Arctic will be discussed. Instead, the talks will center on Ukraine and European security, key topics for the broader NATO meeting on Thursday and Friday.
Trump recently told NBC News that the US would "100%" take Greenland and claimed to have already discussed the matter, increasing diplomatic tensions over its status.
