Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday criticized the United States for putting "unacceptable pressure" on Denmark and Greenland as high-ranking US officials are set to travel to the Arctic island later this week.
Frederiksen sees the visits as a form of continued US pressure on Denmark after President Donald Trump's comments stating Greenland should become a part of his country. "You can't have a private visit with official representatives from another country," she told TV 2.
"But it's clear that when you make a visit like this and the Greenlandic politicians clearly state that they don't want the visit, you can't interpret it as respectful," she concluded, while stressing Denmark and Greenland have the support of other Nordic countries and the European Union.
