Direct talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff lasted only "a couple of minutes," the Iranian Fars News Agency reported on Monday citing an unnamed source. The report claimed the face-to-face meeting was arranged by the Omani mediators, while the Iranian delegation insisted on indirect negotiations. A previous report by Axios alleged the direct talks, held in Oman on Saturday, lasted for around 45 minutes.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry later said it is considering further indirect negotiations on a potential nuclear deal, with Omani officials retaining their intermediary role. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he will "make a decision on Iran very quickly," without providing details.
