Discord taps Activision Blizzard's Sakhnini as CEO

UNSPLASH / APPSHUNTER

Discord co-founder and CEO Jason Citron revealed on Wednesday that he will step down from his position, naming former Activision Blizzard Vice Chairman Humam Sakhnini as the new CEO, who will also join the company's board starting Monday.

"We have hired a new CEO to lead Discord through our next chapter of growth and someday becoming a public company. I am thrilled to share that Humam Sakhnini will take on this role, and I will continue as a member of our Board of Directors and Advisor to the CEO," Citron said in a memo to employees.

Citron will maintain his position on Discord's board while serving as CEO advisor. The messaging platform's leadership change comes as reports suggest the company has engaged with investment bankers to explore a potential initial public offering this year.
