United States Department of Justice (DoJ) is broadening its investigation into the rental housing sector by initiating a criminal inquiry into RealPage which is a corporation with a relevant role in the sector of developing software for property pricing, Politico reported on Wednesday.

According to four people close to the matter and consulted by the media, the probe also targets RealPage clients that have benefited from the software developer that may be facilitating price-fixing among certain prominent residential property owners and management firms using the company´s platform, which would imply an anti-competitive activity.

This would be an escalation of an ongoing investigation of two years as the antitrust division of the DoJ issued subpoenas earlier this year, according to the sources.
