The United States Justice Department announced on Tuesday that it has charged former Apple software engineer Weibao Wang with stealing the tech giant's autonomous driving technology for a Chinese carmaker.

According to the indictment, the engineer worked on Apple's Annotation Team since early 2016 and had broad access to databases that only 2% of the company employees had.

The 35-year-old reportedly accepted a job with the Chinese company in 2017 before resigning from Apple.
