Doge rises 20% as Tesla tests merch purchases

The price of Dogecoin increased by over 20% on Tuesday following Tesla Inc.'s CEO Elon Musk's statement that the company will make some merchandise available to buy through Dogecoin.

Taking to Twitter, Musk stated that the car manufacturer will do this experiment and "see how it goes." Musk has a history of supporting Dogecoin and had previously stated that it makes more sense for people to buy things online via Doge rather than some other cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin.

Doge gained 23.20% to trade for $0.1951 at 5:45 am ET.
