Dow slides 500 pts at open on economic concerns

Major stock exchanges on Wall Street traded deep in the red territory on Monday after an extended Easter weekend, as United States President Donald Trump's remarks remained at the center of attention. Previously, Trump mentioned that he wasn't satisfied with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's work, adding that the latter would leave his post if he asked. Tariff concerns also lingered.

The Dow Jones shed 0.75% or 290 points at the opening bell, as Nvidia fell 2.39% at 9:31 am ET. Not long after, the index declined further, dropping 1.28% or 502 points at 9:46 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 started the session trading with a 1.30% loss, with Tesla slumping 4.65% at 9:32 am ET. The S&P 500 tumbled 1.03% at 9:30 am ET, as APA plunged 5.52% at 9:32 am ET.

The euro surged 1.20% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, going for 1.15082.
