Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Thursday reports claiming that the United States won't be pulling out the Typhon missile system from the Philippines.
Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian shared during a press briefing that Beijing is "seriously concerned" with the news, as it sees this as a decision that "turns back the wheel of history, seriously threatens regional security [and] incites geopolitical confrontation." China called on the US to withdraw the system "as soon as possible."
Previously, sources told Reuters that the system in question would be left in place for the time being. The Typhon missile system was first brought into Manila earlier this year, during joint exercises.
