Durov allegedly released from police custody by Paris judge

Telegram co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov was released from police custody on Wednesday by a magistrate after he appeared before a Paris court to answer charges brought against him by the French authorities, BFMTV reported.

Durov was arrested on August 24 upon arriving in France for alleged lack of cooperation with authorities over illegal activities on Telegram. The judge ended Durov's police custody in expectation of a preliminary examination and possible indictment, BFMTV said.

Telegram's CEO was born in Russia but holds French citizenship, he is also a citizen of the United Arab Emirates and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
