ECB's Makhlouf favors rate hikes in June, July

European Central Bank policymaker Gabriel Makhlouf said on Friday that he believes the ECB should hike its key interest rates two more times in June and July, noting he remains open about subsequent policy decisions.

Commenting on consumer prices, Makhlouf argued that the upward momentum in core inflation slowed, however that the pressures on food prices are still building. The ECB can achieve its 2% inflation target without a recession, he asserted.

The next policy meeting of the ECB's Governing Council is scheduled for June 15.
