Member of the European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council and National Bank of Belgium (NBB) Governor Pierre Wunsch told Econostream in an exclusive interview published on Wednesday that the recent banking crisis will not necessarily have any major impact on the former institution's monetary policy decision that will be unveiled in May.
Still, he stressed that "I'm not saying it won't impact, but the case where it doesn't impact or has a very limited impact is certainly not to be excluded."
Confirming the ECB was not going for a 50 basis points (bps) interest rate hike at its previous meeting, Wunsch stated that "where market expectations are now, at 3.75%, looks to me like probably close to where we want to go. ... Of course, there can be a surprise in one or the other direction."
