European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell spoke on Wednesday against calls to stop funding the United Nations (UN) Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), stressing its "irreplaceable role in delivering humanitarian aid in Gaza."
"US Ambassador to the UN [Linda Thomas-Greenfield] said it well: although an investigation is needed, we shouldn't let allegations cloud UNRWA’s indispensable and great work," Borrell wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Borrell's comments came after several countries, including the United States, decided to pause funding the UNRWA amid the allegations some of the agency's employees were involved in Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
