European Council President Antonio Costa condemned Russia's missile attack on Ukraine's Sumy that left over 20 people dead.
"I'm outraged by Russia's criminal missile attack on the city centre of Sumy. Russia continues its campaign of violence, showing once again that this war exists and endures only because Russia chooses so," Costa said in a post on X and reiterated the European Union's support for Ukraine.
Following the attack, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry "urgently" called for "additional air defense" and for working on "real and effective security guarantees for Ukraine."
