EU's Sefcovic: No justification for US tariff increases

European Union Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic said on Wednesday that he sees no "justification for sudden, unilateral tariff increases" by the United States.

"If the US imposes tariffs on EU products, it would create unnecessary barriers to European exports, harming businesses and workers on both sides," Sefcovic said in a speech at an American Enterprise Institute event. He added that in the event that Washington sticks to its decision to impose tariffs on imports from the EU, "we will have no choice but to respond firmly and swiftly."

Furthermore, the commissioner noted that the EU is ready to discuss with the US administration the possibility of lowering or eliminating tariffs on vehicles, stressing that the block "is interested in making deals" for "mutual benefit."
