The Belgian Presidency of the European Union announced on Wednesday that the members' ambassadors within the bloc agreed "in principle" on the new package of sanctions against Russia.
"This package is one of the broadest approved by the EU. It will undergo a written procedure and be formally approved for the 24 February," the presidency wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the move, tweeting that "[w]e must keep degrading [Russian head of state Vladimir] Putin's war machine. With 2000 listings in total, we keep the pressure high on the Kremlin. We are also further cutting Russia's access to drones."
