The European Commission approved the proposed $75 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard (Activision) by Microsoft, the regulatory body said in a statement on Monday.

The antitrust watchdog said it had fully considered the issues brought to its attention. However, the decision was made after a thorough investigation of the agreement. "As always, the Commission has based its decision on hard evidence and extensive information," the statement read.

Today's decision comes after the British regulator rejected the agreement, claiming it would reduce competition in the country's gaming market.
