The European Union could establish an independent anti-corruption authority, Hungarian newspaper Nepszava reported on Tuesday. The watchdog could be created as a result of negotiations between the EU and Hungary on the rule of law issues, including Hungary's alleged misuse of EU funds.
According to the report, the so-called Integrity Authority would include "people of integrity with experience in financial and legal matters," with international organizations playing a part in choosing its board. It would have "significant powers" to investigate corruption and intervene, sources familiar with the matter claimed.
