European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic said on Thursday that the European Union could consider allowing the United Kingdom to join the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (PEM). The PEM includes the EU and a number of non-member countries in Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa.

However, Sefcovic told the BBC that the EU is waiting for a proposal from the British government, which has not yet been "precisely formulated." He added that the two sides should revisit the post-Brexit veterinary agreement, with the UK following EU regulations. "We would have to have the same rules and we have to upgrade them at the same time, we call it dynamic alignment," he explained.
