The European Union is planning not to buy weapons from companies from the United States, the United Kingdom and Turkey unless those countries sign defense and security pacts with it, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday. In addition, unnamed EU officials said the EU will not buy arms from countries that restrict their use.

The rules would have to be approved by EU member states and would apply to the €150 billion in defense loans. The report said that the plan would currently allow the EU to buy weapons and other military equipment from Norway, South Korea, Japan, Albania, Moldova, North Macedonia and Ukraine.
