EU extends Russia sanctions for 6 months

UNSPLASH/ALEXANDRE LALLEMAND

The European Council extended on Monday sanctions against Russia for another six months, until January 31, 2026. The European Union has so far adopted 17 packages of measures targeting the Russian government, as well as entities and individuals supporting Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Council stated that it will maintain the sanctions, and take additional measures if necessary, "as long as the illegal actions by the Russian Federation continue to violate fundamental rules of international law."
