The European Union extended import duties and quotas on Ukrainian exports for another year on Thursday in order to support the Ukrainian economy through its war with Russia. In addition, the union reinforced the mechanism protecting EU farmers after several member states previously introduced bans on Ukrainian imports, arguing they competed unfairly with domestic production.
"This renewal of strong EU economic support for Ukraine comes at a pivotal moment, just as the country grapples with a renewed military onslaught. These Autonomous Trade Measures are not only a gesture of solidarity and stability: they are an economic lifeline. At the same time, they now include stronger safeguards for sensitive EU agricultural sectors, responding to legitimate concerns expressed by our farmers and Member States," Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis said.
