The European Commission announced on Monday that it "has opened an in-depth investigation" into the London Stock Exchange Group plc's (LSEG) acquisition of financial information provider Refinitiv.
The deal will be examined under the EU Merger Regulation so the Commission could determine if it "would negatively affect competition in" the financial markets, Commission's Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager revealed in a statement.
"It is key for a well functioning financial market to ensure that market participants continue to have access to financial market infrastructure and financial data products on competitive terms," she underlined.
