The European Union is already preparing for the possibility of Joe Biden not being re-elected as United States president in 2024, CNBC reported on Monday, citing a source familiar with the matter.
According to an unnamed EU official, the bloc and the US share "unprecedented close cooperation and coordination" that goes "from official levels to the highest levels." However, they added, Brussels is aware that those relations are "not a given" and that such an attitude "might change when there is someone like [former President Donald] Trump in the White House again."
The EU leaders welcomed Biden's previous election victory in 2020, hailing it as a return to multilateralism following Trump's America First approach.
