EU reportedly tells Musk to hire more Twitter staff

EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

The European Commission told Tesla Inc. and Twitter Inc. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk to hire more human staff in the latter company who would moderate and fact-check posts, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

According to four people familiar with the matter, the commission took issue with Musk's plan to use more volunteers and artificial intelligence (AI) rather than actual staff to conduct content moderation. At the moment, posts on Twitter are being overseen by AI and human workers but are not being fact-checked.

Back in January, Musk and European Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton had a meeting on to what extent Twitter complies with the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA).
