European Commission Executive Vice President for the economy and European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis (pictured) said on Tuesday that the European Union is ready to engage with Chinese authorities concerning the bloc's investigation into Beijing's electric vehicle subsidies.

Speaking at a press conference in the Chinese capital, he underlined the probe will be "facts-based" and "in line with applicable EU and WTO [World Trade Organization] rules."

Dombrovskis revealed that Chinese officials expressed their concern about the matter in conversations he had during his visit to the Asian country. He also clarified that only facts will determine the outcome of the investigation.
