European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill said on Wednesday that the European Union will respond "at the appropriate moment" to tariffs that will be imposed by the United States later today. He said there will be two responses, one on steel and aluminum tariffs, and another that clusters together all other levies.
Gill said the EU is also working to calculate the impact of the tariffs on its economy but the process is hindered by the fact that the union does not know exactly what measures US President Donald Trump will announce. Gill added that there are currently no plans for EU officials to travel to the US for trade negotiations but that plans can be made quickly as the EU still advocates a negotiated settlement.
