European Union leaders have strongly condemned the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire, calling for the swift restoration of the agreement that includes both ceasefire terms and the release of hostages. The European Council on Thursday expressed concern over the mounting civilian casualties caused by recent Israeli airstrikes and criticized Hamas for its refusal to free the remaining hostages.
The EU also stressed the critical need for uninterrupted humanitarian aid and the immediate restoration of essential services, such as electricity for water desalination plants.
Since Israel's breach of the ceasefire on March 18, the death toll in Gaza has surged to 49,617, with 112,950 wounded, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Over the last two days, 506 individuals, including nearly 200 infants, have been killed, and 909 more have been injured, with 303 of them children.
