European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the world must not waste time but help Ukrainians rebuild their country as soon as possible.
Speaking on Tuesday at the International Expert Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Berlin, Von der Leyen urged the creation of an international coordination platform preferably before the end of the year or in early 2023. She confirmed that the Commission was ready to provide full support to the platform, stating that the primary relief amounts to €3 to €5 billion a month just to cover recurrent daily costs.
She emphasized that the World Bank estimates the damage inflicted by Russian attacks at €350 billion, while the EU, its member states, and financial institutions have provided Ukraine with more than €19 billion in assistance so far, excluding military help.
