The Egyptian Foreign Ministry shared a statement on Thursday on Facebook expressing its appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks regarding the Gaza Strip.
During a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin, Trump emphasized that the people of Gaza should not be forced to leave. Egypt praised this stance, stating that it "reflects an understanding of the importance of avoiding the worsening of the humanitarian situation in the sector, and the necessity of working to find an equitable and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue."
This comes after Trump clarified on Wednesday that "nobody is expelling any Palestinians" from Gaza. Previously, Trump had suggested that Gaza could be transformed into a tourist destination, calling it the potential "Riviera of the Middle East." His administration had also shared AI-generated videos envisioning Gaza as a business hub, sparking debate over the future of the region and the will of its residents.
