El Salvador's Congress voted in favor of a law that grants the country's citizenship to foreigners who make Bitcoin donations to the country.

The law, which states citizenship will be granted to "altruistic foreigners interested in supporting the economic, social and cultural development of El Salvador ... by donating Bitcoin," is set to come into force in the coming days.

In 2021, El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender following a proposal by President Nayib Bukele.
