Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi warned on Tuesday that a wider regional conflict in the Middle East would lead to consequences that are "difficult to imagine." Following a meeting with United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, he said "stopping the bloodshed" should be both Israel's and Hamas' main motive to reach a ceasefire deal.
El-Sisi added that the ceasefire should be the first step toward a wider international recognition of Palestine and the implementation of a two-state solution, claiming that Palestinian independence is the "basic guarantor of stability in the region." Blinken and El-Sisi stressed the strength of the bilateral strategic partnership and their "keenness to advance joint efforts to restore security and stability in the region."
