ElevenLabs, an artificial intelligence startup best known for its voice generation software, told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that it is launching a new AI-based service called Eleven Music, which allows users to create custom music using the company's AI model.
The company's Co-founder and CEO Mati Staniszewski revealed that ElevenLabs has an agreement with the digital rights agency for independent labels, Merlin Network, to train its AI model using music from artists represented by Merlin. The startup also has a similar deal with the independent rights management and music publishing company Kobalt Music Group. Staniszewski also said he hopes to reach deals with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group.
While users can use prompts in plain English to create any type of music they'd like, the company said it placed safeguards against creating songs that include artists' names or specific lyrics from any album or label, as well as violent, obscene, or otherwise unlawful lyrics.
