Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk warned on Tuesday that there is a 10% to 20% chance that artificial intelligence (AI) could take a dangerous turn.
"I think AI is a significant existential threat and something we should be paying close attention to," the billionaire pointed out. During his virtual appearance at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh, Musk reaffirmed his summer predictions when he cautioned that artificial intelligence carries a risk of "annihilating" the world. However, he struck a more optimistic tone, indicating there is now an 80% to 90% chance that AI development could lead to positive outcomes.
"I think it'll be able to do anything a human can do, possibly within the next year or two," Musk told the conference. The billionaire also projected that by 2040, there could be approximately 10,000 humanoid robots in operation.
