Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced plans to open a consulate in Aleppo, marking a significant step in Ankara's renewed engagement with Syria. Speaking on Wednesday, Erdogan confirmed the reopening of Turkey’s embassy in Damascus and emphasized Ankara's commitment to supporting Syria's new authorities.
Erdogan praised the Syrian leadership's handling of the recent power transition and pledged assistance in areas such as energy, education, healthcare, security, and trade. He highlighted Turkiye's role in helping Syria recover and rebuild its state institutions. "We will support Syria in everything it needs ... We will help the new authorities so that Syria can recover, strengthen its potential and allow state institutions to once again fulfill their basic duties," he stressed.
Additionally, Erdogan issued a firm warning to Kurdish militants in Syria, demanding they disarm or face severe consequences. This reflects Turkiye's continued focus on combating groups it considers a threat to its security.
