Erdogan declares election victory

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared victory in the nation's runoff election.

Speaking to his supporters in Istanbul, Erdogan expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating that his backers successfully completed both rounds of the presidential election. "We have completed the second round of the presidential election in favor of our nation," the incumbent leader said. He went on to proclaim that his ruling party will lead the country for the next five years and expressed his commitment to deserving the trust placed in him.

Erdogan's comments come shortly after the official results showed him in the lead.
