The consumer confidence indicator recorded in the Eurozone and the European Union registered in August its first decrease since September 2022, the European Commission revealed in its final report published on Wednesday. In the euro area, the figure went down by 0.9 percentage points to negative 16.0, while in the EU, it fell from July's negative 16.1 to negative 17.0.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the Eurozone and the entire European Union continued to decrease in August, declining by 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous month to 93.3 and 0.6 percentage points to 92.9, respectively. Meanwhile, the Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) dropped by 1.3 percentage points month-on-month to 102.1 in the euro area and 1.0 percentage points to 101.7 in the EU.
The commission stressed that "survey respondents got more pessimistic about their household’s future financial situation and the expected general economic situation in their country."
