The Eurozone's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 2.4% in December on a yearly basis, Eurostat confirmed in its second report on Friday, rising from 2.2% in November. Annual inflation in the European Union stood at 2.7%, compared to 2.5% in November. Among member states, Romania saw the highest inflation at 5.5%, followed by Hungary at 4.8% and Croatia at 4.5%. Ireland had the lowest rate at 1%, followed by Italy at 1.4%.
On a monthly basis, the euro area CPI grew by 0.4%, while the EU's CPI was up by 0.3%. Annual core inflation, excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco was measured at 2.7% in the Eurozone, while the monthly rise in the core CPI was 0.5%, unchanged from the preliminary report.
