Europe closes mixed on economic woes

Major stock exchanges in Europe closed the Tuesday session off trading mixed, as investors continued to weigh the global economic outlook following last week’s interest rate increases by the European Central Bank, the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve. Both ECB and BoE officials emphasized that the fight against inflation is not over yet. Meanwhile, BNP Paribas, BP and Linde all released their quarterly earnings reports today.

The DAX declined 0.16% at the closing bell with Airbus down 2.84%. At the same time, the CAC 40 edged down 0.07% as Carrefour slid 4.98%. The FTSE 100 rose 0.36% at the close as BP jumped 7.95%. Concurrently, the Euro Stoxx 50 gained 0.09%, with TotalEnergies up 3.25%. The euro was 0.27% below the dollar at 5:30 pm CET, selling for 1.07010. The pound traded 0.13% lower against the greenback to go for 1.20083 simultaneously.
