Major European stock indexes opened in the green territory on Monday as traders await important financial institutions' earnings results and economic indicators to be released throughout the week. German Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel will give his remarks on the economic situation today, while European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde will address the international economic forum in New York.
The DAX rose 0.20%, as Merck led the gains, jumping 1.43% at the open. The Eurostoxx 50 gained 0.06%, with Prosus adding 1.75%. London's FTSE 100 increased by 0.34%, with the best performer being Anglo American which gained 1.31%. The CAC 40 advanced by 0.15%, as Worldline went up 1.31%.
The euro and the pound sterling both stood flat against the dollar at 8:58 am CET, changing hands for 1.09877 and 1.24194 respectively.
