European stock markets opened higher on Tuesday as investors digested the latest GDP reports from the UK and Spain, and the trade balance in Italy, released yesterday. The FTSE and CAC 40 will close early today, at 1:30 pm CET and 2:05 pm CET, respectively, while the Euro Stoxx 50 and the German DAX are not trading today. Those in the UK, Germany, Spain and France will remain shut on Wednesday and Thursday for the Christmas holiday.
At 9:00 am CET, the French CAC 40 traded 0.34% higher with STMICROELECTRONICS increasing 1.86%. The British FTSE 100 gained 0.30% as Endeavour Mining PLC jumped 1.94%.
The euro traded 0.13% lower against the dollar at 8:58 am CET to sell for $1.03926. Simultaneously, the pound sterling was flat against the United States currency to change hands for $1.25347.
