Europe opens higher as earnings season continues

Major European stock markets started Monday's trading session with gains as investors awaited the latest financial results by many companies, including HSBC, Societe Generale, Credit Agricole, BMW and Volkswagen, set to be released later in the week. Meanwhile, Philips N.V. published its second-quarter earnings report before the opening bell. Additionally, market participants will focus on German and Eurozone's inflation and gross domestic product (GDP) reports.

The DAX opened 0.46% higher, with Merck KGaA surging by 3.89%. The FTSE 100 added 0.42%, as JD Sports Fashion plc advanced by 2.11%. The CAC 40 gained 0.32%, and STMicroelectronics NV climbed by 1.97%. The Euro Stoxx 50 improved by 0.52%, with Banco Santander going up 1.20%.

The euro and the pound traded flat compared to the dollar at 8:58 am CET, selling for $1.08581 and $1.28684, respectively.
