UNIFIL: Israel's destruction of property breaks international law

EPA-EFE/STRINGER

United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said on Friday that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) destroyed parts of UNIFIL's property in Ras Naqoura in Lebanon, which the peacekeeping mission called "a flagrant violation of international law and resolution 1701."

According to UNIFIL's statement, two IDF excavators and one IDF bulldozer tore apart a piece of a fence and a concrete structure in one of UNIFIL's positions. The IDF reportedly denied any activity in that location.

"Since 30 September, the IDF has repeatedly demanded that peacekeepers leave their positions near the Blue Line 'for their safety.' Yesterday's incident, like seven other similar incidents, is not a matter of peacekeepers getting caught in the crossfire, but of deliberate and direct actions by the IDF," UNIFIL stated on its social media.
